High-lights of my carier

- main discoveries
A novel enzyme: multisubstrate deoxyribonucleoside kinase (EC 2.7.1.145) from the fruit fly (from 1997): now a model to understand biochemistry, molecular biology, activation of anti-cancer drugs, novel suicide gene for cancer gene-therapy and applied aspects of similar enzymes, and it was introduced into industrial production by Roche;
Establishment, development and popularisation of novel yeast model organisms, S. kluyveri and S. castellii (from 1994)and Dekkera/Brettanomyces bruxellensis (from 2002);
Development of hypotheses on un-even evolution of duplicated genes and on yeast evolution (from 1994).
So far over 100 peer-reviewed articles have been published (including Nature, Nature Structure, EMBO J, PNAS, J Mol Biol, J Biol Chem, TIG, TIBS, Genetics, etc), five patent applications filed and two books co-authored (www.worldscibooks.com/lifesci/6620.html).

- administrative
Head of Molecular and Cell Biology at BioCentrum-DTU, app. 20 members (including students, technicians, assoc. professors and visitors) from 2002-2004; from 2005 deputy member and from 2008 member of the Board of Cell and Organism Biology, Lund University.

- education
Development of new under-graduate courses (practical and theoretical) in advanced eukaryote molecular biology and genetics, yeast molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology and innovations (at the Technical University of Denmark and now at the Lund University);
Supervision of EU Erasmus/Sokrates research project undergraduates from France, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey, etc.
Main or co-supervisor of Ph.D. students: S. Smole (University of Ljubljana, 1995), R.F. Petersen (KU, Copenhagen, 1998), Z. Gojkovic (KU, 2000), K. Møller (Technical University of Denmark, 2001), R.B. Langkjær (DTU, 2002), B. Bramsted (DTU, 2003), A.K. Jørgensen (DTU, 2003), G. Andersen (DTU, 2006), M. Sandrini (DTU-2006), S. Polakova (LU, 2008, Licentiate); presently supervisor of four LU students all working in my lab at COB, LU. So far, daily supervisor of over a dozen of visiting Ph.D. students during their (at least 3 months) stay in my laboratory: from Lexington (US), London (Canada), Marburg (Germany), Bratislava (Slovakia), Lviv and Kiev (Ukraine), Milan and Pavia (Italy), Sevilla (Spain), Stockholm and Uppsala (Sweden), Ljubljana and Piran (Slovenia), Zagreb (Croatia), etc.
